Unpacking Local Politics – FREE Course This course will be delivered over 3 half days and will provide an in depth insight into the main political parties in the North. If you are interested in local politics, policy making, community relations, community development or history this course could be for you. The course provides participants with opportunities to hear from representatives of each party that make up the Northern Ireland Executive in a very unique format. Each encounter will be followed by a short dialogue session which allows you to ask questions of the party representative and seeks to enhance your own understanding of each of the parties. Each party representative will explore some or all of the following areas in their presentations: - • Origins of the party • Historical development, culture and ethos of the party • Internal structures & decision making processes within the party • Positions and opinions of the party on key policy areas • Contribution to politics in Northern Ireland. • Future challenges and opportunities for the party • ....and anything else you ask of them. This course will be held in Rural Community Network, 38a Oldtown Street, Cookstown, BT80 8EF. The dates and times are: - • Tuesday 5th November 2013 – 10am to 1pm • Tuesday 12th November 2013 – 10am to 1pm • Tuesday 19th November 2013 – 10am to 1pm It is anticipated that the following political parties will participate in this programme: - • Alliance • Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) • Sinn Féin (SF) • Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) • Social Democratic & Labour Party (SDLP) We are adopting a ‘mystery’ format to this course, where we will not be indicating which parties will be represented in each session.
