Unpaid internship at CFJC - contact: Erin Middleton [email protected] About CFJC Community Food and Justice Coalition (CFJC) is a national coalition that promotes the basic human right to healthy, affordable food while advancing social, agricultural, environmental and economic justice. We achieve our goals through education, advocacy and by collaborating with community-based efforts in California and throughout the country. Since 2003, we have worked with individuals and organizations in advocacy and community organizing; educated policymakers and the public about the need to support equitable and sustainable food systems; and helped to secure increased government support for local and regional food systems. All that we do is undertaken to support our vision of a food system in which all activities, from farm to table, are equitable, healthful, sustainable, regenerative, and community-driven. Job summary A basic component of any coalition is effective communication. CFJC focuses on promoting not just our work but also the outstanding progress of our members and partners across California and the nation to ensure that their work is recognized. One of our primary goals is to connect the dots between what’s being done on the local, state, and national levels with local communities that are affected the most by food system disparities. In the past, Website and Communications Interns have assisted in website development, online communications, and the expansion of online tools to broaden CFJC’s impact. Having a strong online presence allows CFJC to provide a space for our members, partners and the general public to share information on campaigns, food policy, and relevant efforts that push for a healthier food system. The CFJC Program Manager will work with the Website and Communications Intern to tailor a scope of work based on the intern’s skills and interest. Currently, we are looking for help with the following areas of responsibility. Essential job functions include • Assist with the content development and maintenance of the website •Employ innovative and best practices for our website and social media •Assist in sharing campaigns, events, and relevant news via CFJC social media Organizational Relationships Reports to Intern Coordinator and Program Manager, with working relationships with Communications team and other staff. Requirements 3 month commitment Computer skills: Wordpress or similar website platform or willing to learn; familiarity with major social media tools; image editing/design skills a plus; html/css helpful but not necessary. Belief in the CFJC mission. Benefits There is no stipend associated with intern positions at CFJC. However there are a number of benefits to interning at CFJC including: • Strengthened research, writing, production and community outreach skills • Connections to individuals within the field • Experience in an established non-profit structure • Excellent springboard for those seeking career in environmental justice, food justice or professional communications work. A number of interns have gone on to get jobs in the food justice field.
