Unpleasant photo, but good news! In response to conservationists concern and with the support of the fishing industry, the New Zealand government is proposing to speed up implementation of new shark finning rules and apply them to heavily fished blue sharks this year (instead of in 2016). You can find the comments we filed on this issue (with partners Shark Trust and Project AWARE) back in December 2013 at sharkadvocates.org. Public support for a fins-attached rule -- without exceptions -- is still needed, by June 22.
