She accepted her award from England football stars Owen Hargreaves and retired captain Alan Shearer. In her speech to 5,000 people at the National Exhibition Centre, and to millions of television viewers, Ms Hanover told how she was overwhelmed and proud to win her Unsung Hero award. But its not only for me, its for the hundreds of volunteers and athletes with learning disabilities in the Special Olympics who train every week to achieve at their level in sport. And Im very pleased to win it for them, she said.
