Until this happened, I had no idea that my poor husband, who is 65 (and white), has been subjected to racism since he was in high school. Our children and I, (Im only 55), are especially guilty. Even his own mother has repeatedly subjected him to this kind of abuse, particularly during the holidays, when she has need of seldom used large casserole dishes. Oh, the pain and anguish he must be feeling in these seemingly innocuous moments!
