Unusual and late monsoon has played havoc in the northern part of Pakistan. Now, heading towards southern part of the country. Alarm bells getting louder all over, mixed with the conspiracy theories. Some cynics say, it was India, which opened the water channels and gates to Pakistan, and flooded mainly Punjab. Environmentalists have been alerting, climate change has resulted unexpected weather cycles in the region, therefore everyone was pre-warned. Marchers have been occupying Constitution Avenue since last 27 days, zeroing the functionality of Federal govt at Islamabad. Punjab Govt was already in a blaming fix since Model Town tragedy. With this natural, rather a man-made calamity, another tragedy has struck its core belt, central and upper Punjab, exposing the myth of better governance in Punjab and its superman sort of CM. Therefore, dont expect, worst wont hit, as roaring lions (Indus) water enters Sindh within days, the lowest riparian in the region. Should lower riparian blame the upper one, as some pointing fingers to the upper most, beyond the border? Or, ensure natural preparedness mechanism, to meet and mitigate the challenges of climate change? If history has been any lesson, 2010 devastating floods were more than enough to learn and prepare during last four years.
