Up early reflecting on the past 20 years as we prepare today to celebrate the 20th Birthday of our firstborn child, Jabari Caire. His arrival into this world was in full progress at this moment 20 years ago as I walked the halls of the Meriter Hospital Birthing Center with Kaleem Caire holding my hand and rubbing my back, assuring me that I would make it through the labor that was growing closer by the minute, one contraction at a time. I knew this child we were preparing for would be special--I had imagined his face in my mind since before he was even conceived. Over the last two decades, he has transformed from a baby to a boy to a young man right in front of us in such a short time. A gifted artist, pilot, dancer, analytical thinker, and world affairs buff, Jabari is uniquely and dynamically talented. And despite how grown he is now, I must say that not a day has passed that Jabari has not kissed me on the cheek and told me "I love you Mom"--he still does even before heading to class, to work, or before hopping into a plane to fly to altitudes that scare me to death--but that he was specially made to reach. As he moves out into the world to carve his own life and path beyond the safety and security of home, I know that he will be successful and do GREAT THINGS!! He has already begun. We love you Jabari--you make us so very proud. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
