Quint is beautiful, 6-pound Maltese/Chihuahua mix. Let me remind you of his story…Quint was picked up by animal control as a stray. He was so horribly matted that you couldn’t even see his feet and his back legs were actually pulled together by the matted fur. Quint had to be sedated in order to cut through the tight, solid mats on his legs. Once we began shaving him down, we found his back feet looked deformed from being pulled by matted fur for so long. Upon examination by a specialist, we found out that Quint has double ruptured Achilles tendons in his back legs so essentially his wrist and paw all contact the ground which is causing him pain and makes it impossible for him to walk correctly. The specialist told us that Quint is not a good candidate for surgery and they suggested custom orthotics for his legs to help him walk normally. The orthotics will correct his legs so that only his paws contact the ground. He will then need physical therapy until he gets accustomed to wearing his new orthotics. It is heartbreaking to watch this this little doggie drag himself around on his two good legs. We want nothing more than to see him recover and find a loving home where he can live out his days with joy and pleasure. The saddest thing is, he is not even very old. This poor little guy is only about 7-years-old, which is fairly young for this breed. With these custom orthotics, he should be able to live a perfectly normal life. Quint is going to need orthotics on both back legs and the specialist has given us an estimate of $2,200 for: 2 custom orthotics plus the measure and fit, and 6 sessions of physical therapy. We never know what we are getting into when we rescue a dog from a shelter, but “once an Angels dog, always an Angels dog!” When we bring a dog into our program we are dedicated to offering them the best possible chance at a new, happy, healthy, and promising life…which is exactly what we want to offer Quint. Years of neglect left him permanently damaged. We can’t repair the damage but, with your help, we can absolutely improve his quality of life.
