Update 081714 Today I packed up & headed to the hospital with my luggage in tow. Got to the hospital & was not pleased at all. Quite irritated actually. Koas nurse reported that Koas sodium shot up to 137 from 122 yesterday. 137 is good buts the timing that it took to get there. Waaay too fast. They are over shooting his supplement & will make him go into a emergency state (again). Koa showed major signs of high sodium. (Btw this is something weve been dealing with at home. I know all the signs & symptoms when something not right.). Koa was overly sweaty. When I say overly sweaty I mean, think of jumping into a swimming pool, come out with out toweling off...thats how drenching sweat Koa was. His extremeties were frozen cold and Koa is no longer able to hold a good body temp on his own. Hanging in the low 96°s. His nurse today knows this as well that something isnt right & voiced her concern but got the feeling like her concern had made no difference. She told me that theyll listen to me. Poor thing, wasnt her fault & I was swearing & cussing like a sailor about the situation. The attending Dr. came & I told him firmly that this is not right. He then told me the specifics of the increase in supplement dosage of sodium & holy cow. Koa was being given 150meqs/ml in a day. They doubled his dosage. He got 300Meqs/ml sodium yesterday. This is an estimate of drinking a cup+ of salt water. And his sodium shot up. So the Dr. made a small adjustment this morning. He went down to 250Meqs/ml a day. I requested to decrease to 200meqs/ml in a day. And that if they will make adjustments take baby steps. Go 25meq/ml increase at a time. If its low low...give a bolus then return to his normal dosage. *sigh* Regardless I have put my point thru that WE ARE going home tomorrow.
