Update 1. Water situation. Rand Water apparently is working on - TopicsExpress

Update 1. Water situation. Rand Water apparently is working on pipes in some areas of our network. They have in the process closed of a large part of the town, and as a result areas such as Tasbet Park has been without water for some time now. We were not informed and could not have pre warned you on this. My apologies. The best information I have is that by 22:00 they will be finished with this and valves will be open. Lets hope for the best. The team continued with water pipe burst repairs and again a large number of water meters were stolen, even a whole area with plastic meters which have no scrap value. Where a water meter is stolen we only from tomorrow will be getting stock to replace these. Numerous further complaints were recorded and the team will continue to deal with these as soon as they can. 2. Electricity Numerous further complaints were recorded and the team is dealing with these. In some cases we will not be able to attend to problems today. A few irregular cases were also reported and we will be investigating the actions of some officials. 3. Street Lights As reported before we are working on the street light programme and I was privy today to the initial planning. We need some R2.5 million to replace all faulty aspects to the street light system and bulbs over this financial year. The Head of Department will in the remainder of this week do costing per phase and work t a programme, as well as the resources required. based on that we will try to make up the short fall, and if all goes well, the programme will be rolled out simultaneously in the eastern and western areas in phases, focusing on the complete overhaul of a suburb at a time. We hope to be able to publish this by next week. 4. Pot holes The pothole programme is continuing but the rapid roll out is being held back due to limited funds. We have not yet concluded our discussions with the provincial government to secure additional help. We will report as soon as we can on the further roll out. 5. Street signs and traffic control Street signage in the priority areas are being planned. At this stage we do not have sufficient budget provision but this will soon be corrected. The traffic section are continuing to do well, although some of you already may not be happy with the fines being received. I hope that we can through this action bring back some responsibility to all our drivers. 6. Waste removal. Due to the better availability of trucks we are more or less on schedule. The city wide clean up programme is still in its planning phase and we will be communicating on this soon. 7. Sanitation. the main issues are blockages, and I am satisfied that Ben and the teams are on top of this within reasonable time frames. Issues regarding spillages in to the river and the pollution of the Olifants are not receiving the proper attention at this stage as we do have to mobilise further resources. I have requested additional funding and this in principle was agreed to, but not yet been finalised. 8. Account enquiries. Many people are directing inquiries on this matter and are frustrated with the responses or non responses. Please direct your questions to [email protected] or tjvvuuren01@gmail. We will try our best to ensure answers for you in reasonable time. Thanks to Ben Dorfling, Connie Similane, Ben Botes, Kgodiso Mashile, Collin, Shedrick, Thandi, Johan, Adriaan and the various teams for being instrumental in the above progress.
