Update #3 – Darwin Power Outages Power and Water safe have been working tirelessly throughout the night and into this morning to restore power. Power is being progressively restored across Darwin, however full restoration is expected to take several hours. Residents across the greater Darwin are encouraged to continue to stay calm and stay at home if possible and not required as part of critical government services. The NT Public service has mobilised its emergency management protocols to ensure the communitys safety and a timely government response. Power and Water: Power and Water have advised that power has been restored in Bakewell, Moulden and Casuarina Square. Power has also been restored to parts of Millner, Anula, Malak, Karama, Lyons, parts of Nakara and parts of East Arm. Progressive restoration continues and is expected to continue for several hours. Water and sewage services are being supported by generators where possible. Police, Fire and Emergency Services: NTFRS and NT Police have responded to three structure fires this morning, predominantly the result of faulty gas cooking equipment. Authorities urge all members of the public to check that their equipment is in good working order, and if using gas cookers, ensure that there are no fire hazards present. Police also urge the public to exercise extreme caution on our roads, slow down, take your time and obey all traffic direction. Schools: Schools remain closed today however all school principals are at work. There were no incidents at school this morning and parents and teachers are thanked for their cooperation. Students who attended school this morning are being supervised and are progressively being returned to the care of parents or carers. Health: If you have a health concern which is not life threatening please call 1800 022 222. 000 remains fully functional for emergencies and should be utilised when needed. Community health services will be closed, however the Royal Darwin Hospital remains fully operational. The following GP’s are open: • Cavanagh St • Top End Medical Casuarina • Palmerston Super Clinic • Northlakes GP clinic RDH is aware of patients in the community who require life support and oxygen and has made contact with these patients. All renal dialysis units are open and patients should attend appoints as usual. Public servants: A number of public service offices are closed today and are expected to reopen tomorrow. Public servants with critical roles including staff at the hospital have reported to work as normal. Roads: The public is urged to exercise extreme caution on the road as traffic lights are affected by the power outage. Police are manning some intersections and motorists should obey all directions. The Department of Infrastructure has provided generator power to the major intersections of: • Stuart/Ross/Woolner • Stuart/Berrimah • Bagot/McMillans • Stuart/Howard Springs Food safety: Food in the fridge will remain safe to eat for 24 hours without power if the door is kept closed. If you are concerned about chilled foods transfer them to your freezer. Parks and attractions: The following are closed: • Territory Wildlife Park • Museum and Art Gallery • Palmerston Water Park • Leanyer Recreation Park Marrara Indoor Stadium is closed until power is restored. Parks & Reserves are open but the rock pools at Howard Springs Nature Park will be off limits to visitors today. Port: Port is business as usual under independent generators, including Darwin Harbour Control.
