Update: 8/5, 8:35 p.m.: Butch was in the chair and rocked another breathing trial this morning. 4 hours breathing room air through his trach. The biggest problem right now is that his cast is ill-fitting and is cutting into his elbow, which has resulted in shoulder pain and numbness in his hand. The replaced his cast and now it seems to be better. So the next new issue is a UTI. This is not uncommon for someone in the hospital, let alone the ICU, for a month. We believe this is causing the fever and some discomfort. I HATE UTIs. Period. Now he is on his second breathing trial for the day, and doing amazingly well again. Its a little more difficult due to a bit of a fever, which makes his heart rate a little elevated. All-in-all, he is rocking it. I took a little break and walked across the street to the park for a bit this afternoon. I needed to write my Moms obituary. Such a difficult thing. How to condense a precious, wonderful life into a few paragraphs. I cried and cried. Normal I believe for this stage. Normally after a death in the family, everyone gathers together for support, love, sharing....funeral events. We are not doing this yet and Im feeling the void. Tiffany is feeling the void. My cousins, siblings, aunts and uncles.....we are all missing this important part that normally happens fairly quickly. My cousin Barb came over tonight and the two of us walked to Applebees and ate dinner together. It was precious. I will be glad when we can finally all be together to grieve, hug, laugh, cry......
