Update December 18 2014 Transplant day was Thursday October 30th. On November 25th Piper officially engrafted. Since the transplant Piper has been battling what’s called hemorrhagic cystitis and bk virus. This can happen with transplant patients. The only thing they are doing for that is hyperhydration which makes her pee every hour to try and avoid the blood in the bladder from forming large clots. This has been going on for weeks and everyone is exhausted. Her white blood cell counts need to keep climbing so that she can fight this off. On December 16th Pipers oxygen saturation began to decrease. They started her on oxygen and did an x-ray of her chest. They found that she has fluid or inflammation in her lungs. They also did another ultrasound on her belly and found a larger blood clot in her bladder. Because she has no immunity she is left exposed to a number of infections. She has tested positive for the HHV6 virus. They started her on a broad spectrum antibiotic to fight this off. On December 17th the doctors made the decision to perform a broncoscopy and endoscopy both these procedures also took biopsies. After the procedure was done she was moved to the intensive care unit where they are continuing to help her breathe via ventilator. Her oxygen was not improving the way it should have even on the oxygen. They have her sedated so that she is not aware of what is going on. At this time they anticipate keeping her in the intensive care unit until at least Saturday. Her little body needs to rest so that she has the strength to keep battling the way she has been. Please everyone keep her in your prayers. She is the bravest little princess any of us have ever met and she will overcome this bump in the road and show this disease who is boss.
