Update: Firefighters on Tuesday, July 29, fully contained the 2,300-acre Sampson Fire, about 60 miles northeast of Ely, Nev. Fire personnel will continue to patrol the fire area. Firefighters were aided by precipitation over the fire area. The forecast calls for cooler temperatures, higher humidity and precipitation. The fire, cause unknown, was first reported at about 4 p.m., Thursday, July 24. It burned in pinion-juniper and sagebrush in critical sage-grouse habitat and into the Becky Peak Wilderness. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Ely District responded with a full-suppression strategy. The BLM was assisted by the White Pine County Fire Protection District.
