Update: His blood work is in and it does not look good. This extreme level of starvation can cause system and organ failure and at this moment we are not sure any of the damage can be reversed. It will be a moment by moment, long road, IF he responds and it will be expensive. Per our vet his growth plates are not even closed making him a younger than 2.5 year old dog. Today we answered a call for help from an area shelter with a dog in great in need. It seems Max became a social media cause on a Roane County Yard Sale site with lots of anger, calls for action and attention that eventually got him surrendered to the Roane County TN Shelter. This is a small rural shelter with no vet and little in the way of funding for such an extreme case. He is now at our vet receiving an evaluation. His Xray is clear of suspected razor blades, he is cold, lethargic, his abdomen is fluid filled due to anemia/probable protein loss, nothing to do a fecal with, uninterested in eating, waiting on blood panel results, so anemic his blood is like water and very much touch and go. He needs all your prayers. We wont sugar coat it, this boy will definitely need to fight to come out of this alive. He is 39#, at least 20 # underweight.
