Update: Monday, 7 October 1445 Typhoon 23W is still approaching the Sasebo area, just a bit slower than last forecasted. We expect to see winds pick around 1300 tomorrow with maximum winds of 50-60 kts gusting to 80 kts between 1800 and 2200 Tuesday Evening. Everyone is encouraged to remain indoors during periods of high winds. Onset of 35 kts: Tuesday 8 Oct/ 1300I Onset of 50 kts: Tuesday 8 Oct/ 1600I Max: 50-60 kts gusts 80 kts: Tuesday 8 Oct/ 1800I Offset 50 kts: Tuesday 8 Oct/ 2200I Offset 35 kts: Tuesday 0 Oct/ 0100I All family housing residents are advised to secure items that may be blown around. On Tuesday, 8 October, CFAS expects to set TCCOR 1 at 0400 in the morning and all non-essential services will be secured: Essential services that will REMAIN OPEN include: •Base Galley •Main Base CDC (only for for children whose parents are BOTH mission essential personnel. And if a parent normally takes their child to the Hario CDC, they can bring that child to Main Base instead. •Base access: The Back gate to main base will remain open. The main gate (to main base) will close Tuesday 1200 and reopen normal time Wednesday. All other facility gates will remain open (including housing) •Fire Department - CALL 911 FOR ALL EMERGENCIES!!! •Medical for emergency services Non-essential services that will be secured include: • DoDDS Schools • Navy Exchange • Commissary • Food Court • Barber Shop • PSD • Housing Office • Medical (routine appointments cancelled) • Dental • Post Office • Navy College (including classes, testing, etc) • Base Legal Office • HRO office • AmeriCable • Banks (both Community Bank and NFCU) • Fleet and Family Service Center (FFSC) • Safety Office • Army Vet office • NMCRS office • USO • MWR facilities to include HVC, bowling alley, Brodies/Galaxies/Chilies, outdoor rec, all gyms, liberty center. Individual commands will designate personnel that are considered essential and will be required to muster. CFAS will resume normal operations following damage assessments and inform the community via AFN radio, facebook, and via command representatives. This assessment will start as soon as the winds pass but cannot be completed until daylight, therefore expect a 2 hour delay in start of normal operations on Wednesday, 9 October.
