Update: Out of the three pages I administer, this is the only post I am doing tonight. The vet came today to x-ray Pals front feet. We had a mix of news across a broad range. If you will remember, we managed to get Pal in a drug trial for the drug, Laminil. He was injected during a long, arduous procedure in May of last year. The left front procedure went well but the right front blew out the vein with about 45 seconds to go. Instead of being able to get all of the meds into the vein, some went into the tissue around it. It was hoped that would work good enough. Over the next year, Pal rejoined the herd and went back on pasture after being essentially a dry lot horse for over 7 years. Eventually we started having laminitis in the right front hoof again but not as bad as it had been. He still grazes in a small paddock but we have to limit his grass intake. We had him x-rayed today just to see where we are going. The great news is the left front hoof has improved dramatically. The lamini tissue seems to be healthier and the growth more solid. There is plenty of sole plate left in both front feet. The news of concern is reference the right front hoof. Nothing dangerous but we are not showing any improvement. I have to wait for the reading to be complete but it was easily seen that the lamini tissue is still unhealthy and there might have been a little more rotation of the coffin bone. There is a micro crack where infection can start in the old lamini tissue area. No infection showing but it could start there. That is a recurring issue with this disease. The drug trial was halted due to lack of funding but the vet is trying to find one more dose and if she can, we will treat the right front hoof one more time, hopefully with better end results. Pal isnt ready to give up and could last a lot longer just as he is but we would like to get him better. So, we dont give up either. Please do not send me advice on how to treat this problem, believe it or not I know a little about what we are doing and have managed several foundered horses in my life successfully. What I need is positive energy flowing to help us find that one more dose. Out vet is heading the hunt. I will keep all of you advised through updates as we continue the journey. Thank you for being here. RR4PAL
