Update: St Catherine RM Court Employees Continue Strike Despite Assurances Published: Tuesday September 24, 2013 | 11:56 am0 Comments Administrative employees at the St Catherine Resident Magistrate’s Court have withdrawn their services for a second day. The employees staged a sick-out yesterday to protest what they say are poor working conditions and inadequate infrastructure. Despite assurances from the Court Management Services that their concerns will be addressed, the workers have not reported for duty today. Their absence has resulted in the hundreds of persons who showed up for court today, to be turned away. Several lawyers have also expressed concern about the issues at the court. Among the issues of concern are frequent water shortages, malfunctioning air conditioning units, termites and the condition of the restrooms. The Court Management Services has said technicians will be brought in to conduct repairs on the malfunctioning AC units. It said discussions have been held with the Ministry of Justice, which has responsibility for such projects and it expects speedy action.
