Update: Worcester Man Killed After Being Struck by Truck at Grafton and Wall Streets Based on the current investigation, a criminal complaint will be issued to the operator of the 2005 Mack Truck that was involved in the fatal pedestrian accident on December 11, 2014. The operator was identified as 51-year-old Stephen Santo of Worcester. The investigation reveals that Mr. Santo was travelling west on Grafton Street when he failed to yield to the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Grafton Street and Wall Street. As a result, Mr. Santo struck and killed 60-year-old Bryan Beardsley of Worcester. Stephen Santo, 51, of 136 Hamilton Street, Worcester will be charged with Operating to Endanger for his negligence while operating the motor vehicle, Failure to Yield for Pedestrian in Crosswalk, and Motor Vehicle Homicide. Previous Press Release The victim of the fatal pedestrian accident that occurred last night has been identified as 60-year-old Bryan Beardsley of Worcester. The Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate. More information will be released when it becomes available. Original Press Release Worcester, MA (December 12, 2014) - On Thursday, December 11, 2014 at approximately 8:00 PM, Worcester Police responded to the intersection of Grafton and Wall Streets for a report of a motor vehicle and pedestrian accident. Upon the officers arrival they came upon a 60-year-old male pedestrian victim. The victim had extensive trauma throughout. Worcester EMS arrived and transported the male to U-Mass Medical Center (university campus). The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival. The male is a Worcester resident. The vehicle that had struck the victim was not at the scene. Members of the Crash Reconstruction Unit were called in to investigate this incident. Investigators reviewed security video from nearby businesses and were able to determine that the suspect vehicle was a Mack Truck style that had a large trash container attached to the back. Investigators were able to obtain identifying information on the truck. With this information, investigators were able to go to the business. The driver has been identified and agreed to go to police headquarters and speak with investigators. The driver is being cooperative with the investigation. There is limited information at this time. To date, no citations have been issued. This investigation is in the early stages and officers will be working throughout the evening to piece together the circumstances leading up to the accident. During this investigation the truck will be given a complete mechanical inspection at a time yet to be determined. The victims name will not be released at this time until all family members have been properly notified. Because this investigation is in the early stages no information with regard to the truck driver’s identity or the business that he was working for will be released at this time.
