Update and trip recap: Getting settled in nicely in Gold Coast and really happy Im back. The trip was a sojourn to say the least. 54 hours. What sucks is because of an unexpected bag fee, it made my trip as costly as one with half the travel time. Air Asia is a bargain airline like Ryan Air, but holy shit, is it cheap. I couldnt believe my eyes, but there were no movie screens, so my eight hour flight was arduous, made moreso by the screaming banshee kids whose parents were useless. I finally got them to shut the hell up and sit down FOUR HOURS into the flight, much to the gratitude of my fellow passengers and not surprisingly, their cowering parents said nothing. Air Asia charges for EVERYTHING, including drinks and peanuts, and they charge a whopping $18 per kg for your second bag, so my tiny, 10 kg bag cost me $180 extra! Grrr. I really enjoyed meeting such a variety of people along the way. The Taipei airport was the most peaceful and scenic Ive seen. Kuala Lumpur was a madhouse, but a good experience. Stayed at a cozy, rural hostel there. Got stopped at customs here TWICE because my second entry into the country raises red flags. Side note: for the inconveniences and billions of dollars spent on (the illusion of) airport security, not a single terrorist has been caught that way. KL had eight...EIGHT checkpoints and Gold Coast had six. Sheesh. Things are already looking up here financially and circumstantially in some very cool ways. Tofu freaked when she saw me and Desleigh got it on video. Im really happy to be back with my sweetheart in better conditions. Shes been terrific. The Universe really seems to want me here. You know that feeling you get when youre somewhere you belong? Its subtle, but unmistakable. The only times Ive gotten that were Berlin and Santa Barbara. And I have that feeling this time. ;) Its a very cool surprise. Ive only been here five days and things are already better than before. Heres to leaps of faith. Cheers!
