Update from Africa: Great report from Jacob and Jessi. Awesome work guys: "Less than a week from today marks a very special day in the Nyawa Chiefdom history! On September 9th, the Zambia public schools open for their “spring” term. With the opening of the elementary and secondary schools, 15 capable and passionate women will be opening preschools in their home villages. For the first time…ever! Talk about a memorable first day of school! Most of these villages have NEVER had a preschool before. The children aged 3-7 have been left mainly unattended while parents work in the field and garden. Sometimes they are left home alone. There are constant injuries and occasional tragedies that occur within this age group. The women who have committed to being their teachers are convinced of their value and can’t wait to teach them the skills that will help them succeed in school. These preschools are COMPLETELY village funded and supported. The parents will pay a small tuition fee in order to support the teacher. It is up to each individual community to decide what kind of building or structure the school needs to function well..."
