Update from Cynthia B.: Hello all, Jake is doing GREAT! He has adopted our daily schedule of activities smoothly which isn’t too surprising since it is similar to what he is used to. His swap to the food my guys eat went exceedingly well, it pays to go slow. He likes his chicken topping still ( so do the other dogs!). Best of all is how well Jake is doing on his new “bionic leg”. He puts almost full weight on it now, most of the time, and he isn’t on any more pain meds. He does not limp. Range of motion in his hock is reduced but I expect that will come back as he uses his leg again. He is on reduced exercise under supervision following the instructions from Dr. Bliss which will last until he gets a follow-up radiograph 8 weeks out from implant which is August 21. When I am away from the house he hangs out in an ex-pen in the cooled entry way with Stanley for company. I have not taught him to use the dog door yet, that will wait until the Dr. gives me the all clear on his freedom to move about. I have not had to use the cones except for the first two or three days, the incision is nearly healed and there is a lot of sable and white hair growing back on all his shaved skin. I am especially enjoying Jake’s sunny attitude and his cheerful sense of humor. He “helps” me make the bed by taking the sheets in his mouth and pulling on them, he “helps” me pick up around the house by carrying shoes from one place to another. Jake isn’t a reactive sort so when Sky, who is, explodes in a flurry of barking and darting about he doesn’t follow suit. That is Faith’s job. My parents who live with me part of every week throughout the summer months have fallen for Jake like no other! My Dad adores him already and calls Jake “my dog”. My Mom loves everything smaller than herself ( she taught kindergarten for 30 years) so between the three of us Jake gets a LOT of loving.
