Update from Ergon A new series of storms sweeping across the Bundaberg region may prevent crews completing the restoration of power to all customers affected by last night’s storms until tomorrow. About 200 customers, mostly in the Isis district, remain without power this afternoon despite the efforts of crews last night and again today to repair dozens of network faults caused by lightning strikes and vegetation impacts. A total of 12,270 lightning strokes was recorded in the Bundaberg Regional Council area during last night’s storms. Crews from Maryborough supported their colleagues from Bundaberg, Childers and Gin Gin today, responding not only to the storm aftermath, but also working to reinstate power to about 150 customers in East Bundaberg after a B-double struck a power pole. An emergency outage also is under way, affecting about 670 Kalkie and Burnett Heads customers, to carry out urgent repairs to cross-arms that were likely to fail if subject to further storm activity tonight. The renewed storm activity this afternoon resulted in the loss of supply to 760 customers in Sharon, Burnett Downs and South Kolan (now restored), as well as smaller customer numbers near Gaeta, Gin Gin and Rosedale. Depending on the severity of the ongoing storms forecast for this evening, crews may need to be withdrawn from the field as a safety precaution. All available crews will start work at first light tomorrow to resume the restoration effort.
