Update from Jacobs Dad, 12/28/14 Well it seems Jacob Erik-Nano - TopicsExpress

Update from Jacobs Dad, 12/28/14 Well it seems Jacob Erik-Nano is on his way to hoisting another trophy, although this one may be a little more valuable than his last. His progress is astounding the medical team. He was removed from total respiratory support on Saturday. The following hours were extremely difficult, but he fought through the peaks and valleys. He remains on significant support, but his lungs are working and breathing. His is battling to speak and sometimes is successful. Last night he faced a life-threatening condition that developed suddenly and sent us on the roller coaster again. He pulled through will flying colors (though Dads only color was pale white). He recovered a short time after yet another chest tube needed to be inserted to relieve a massive pneumothorax in his chest and, after being unconscious and unable to speak for three weeks, was able to look me in the eye and literally ask Whats next? as if to say Bring it on! The lad is a viking. So weak and so strong at the same time. A true inspiration. Today he progressed wonderfully, prompting many positive remarks from the medical team and, although he remains in critical condition in Intensive Care, he has had many moments of lucidity and coherent communication that lit up mine and Moms faces thoroughly. This despite doctors telling us he was a long way from being able to do so. He is winning battles, there is no doubt - but the war is yet to be won. There will undoubtedly be more minefields to walk through. I wanted to give you all an update so you would please know that Alethea Nano was able to communicate to Jacob tonight just how many people are behind him and continuously lifting him up in prayer, in love and in promise and he was completely and genuinely overwhelmed. It appeared to dawn on him that Christmas had passed, but a photo of the Nano tree with all his gifts from so many people waiting for him reassured him that the Nano tree will not come down until Jake celebrates Christmas at home. We are not sure if he grasps the gravity of it all, or the elapsed time, but one thing is for sure, he is feeling the love folks. He is at this moment clutching the signed football from his classmates and wont let go. More than a few tears have fallen. Love from Jake and the Nanos, in the name of Christ Jesus. — with Jacob Erik-Nano.
