Update from MaryEsther: LAB WORK UPDATE: We got some fairly good - TopicsExpress

Update from MaryEsther: LAB WORK UPDATE: We got some fairly good news today with the lab work. His magnesium level is the same as it was when we left St. Jude...1.6! While we wish it were a little higher so we could stop the daily supplements, we are thrilled that it isnt lower. We are to continue giving him magnesium 3 times a day, citric acid 2 times a day and potassium 1 time a day, along with his daily meds. We are still working to fill up the mag level in the bone and not just the blood. The bone is the primary storage place for magnesium. When the blood gets low on its mag supply, it pulls from the bone. We are assuming that since his number was so low last time that the supply in the bone was pretty much non existent, so it had none to pull. For anyone that has ever tasted these oral liquid supplements, you know how incredibly AWFUL they taste. Now imagine getting a 2 year old to take them...but we are thankful that there are ways to fix the imbalances! The other news we received today was his ANC # is 200 (it was 500 when we left St. Jude). The doctors decided that since he is still so low, we will not do chemo on Monday, we will recheck labs on Tuesday and decide where to go from there. We would rather give his body time to heal... and we have been told that with each chemo his body will need a little longer to recover. Everything is going as expected and we are pleased...and we get a few more days at home as long as he doesnt get sick! Thank you all for the prayers and GOOOO DAWGS!!
