Update from Nell: Womens Economic Independence Goes Digital To my dear friends and colleagues in the Count Me In Community: We have often spoken about the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise. Count Me In was created at the right time in the right place to continue my life long quest for economic independence for all women. Finding our way to economic freedom continues to fascinate, sometimes frustrate and always inspire me. For over 40 years I have been organizing women and girls to recognize and claim their economic value as employees, business owners, caregivers and breadwinners. I consistently look for opportunities for women to raise the roof, expand the pie and make life better for their families. I am writing to let you know that I am seizing a new opportunity that will further the cause of womens economic independence by becoming a champion of personal data independence. The typical person creates 1.8 million megabytes of data every year. Marketers turn that data into money and insights but none of it goes to the data owner until now. Personal BlackBox, the new company I will be working with, has a technology platform that gives people control of the data they produce every day and helps unlock its value. The movement for women’s economic independence has gone digital and includes incredible opportunities for women business owners, their employees, families and friends. We have also spoken many times about cycles: business ventures, relationships, programs—they all have their cycles. The emergence of Personal BlackBox (PBB) has come at the same moment that I am ready to step away from the day to day management of Count Me In. I have chosen to champion the PBB mission and lead the Personal Data Independence Trust that will pioneer our new digital rights. Count Me In will go on hiatus over the summer. I will stay actively involved on the Count Me In Board and look forward to introducing new opportunities to grow your business and yourself later this year. All current Business Accelerator Programs will continue including the WVEC class that started June 27th. I encourage you to continue helping each other on the Yahoo Group and WVEC Sisters. If you have thoughts about what CMI might do next please let me know. This is not goodbye, as my work is just taking another form. I am so proud to know you and look forward to hearing news from you regularly. You can continue to reach me at my CMI email address and social media. Know that I will call on you in the next chapter of our journey for economic and personal data independence, creative freedom and better choices for women. Have a great summer. Believe in you Nell Merlino
