Update from Paul. Here is the latest update from Paul regarding his battle with cancer... We saw the radiation oncologist today. Here is some of the information we received from him. They are attempting to get me in at M.D. Anderson in Houston for my radiation treatment. MD Anderson is capable of performing a PROTON radiation which is much more exact than what they are able to do here in Baton Rouge. Regardless of where the treatment is performed, these are some of the things he said we can expect… The treatment will be 5 days a week and will last 7-8 weeks The treatment will be severe and painful The goal is to bring me as close to death without killing me My mouth and throat will become incredibly sore I will be incredibly exhausted throughout the treatment and for 3 months following the treatment. I will lose a lot of weight (hard to believe) so I will need to eat 3 TIMES the amount of calories I normally eat. He said I will have to eat 10 TIMES PER DAY! That sounds like a dream except he said I will be unable to eat solid food, so it will have to be a liquid diet. (malts and milkshakes?) I will lose the hair all over my body. My salivary glands will be affected so I will need to deal with a chronic dry mouth Unfortunately, those are not the most concerning things. He said there is a 100% chance I will lose the sight in my left eye. He also said there is a chance I will lose the sight in my right eye. Obviously this would cause me to be permanently blind. Please pray for these specific points... That I would be able to be treated at MD Anderson. The PROTON radiation they are able to perform there will help my chances of keeping the sight in my right eye. That my PAIN would be minimal and manageable. That I would KEEP MY SIGHT in both eyes… GOD IS ABLE! That my FAMILY will be able to handle these changes throughout the holidays and into next year. That our CHURCH will THRIVE during this season… people will grow in their relationship with the Lord and others will come into a saving relationship with Him. That the LORD would be HIGH and LIFTED UP throughout this whole process and I will be an ACCURATE WITNESS of His power and love to all the doctors, nurses, and patients I meet throughout this process.
