Update from Steve Swart, MP: Hot debates in Parliament today in - TopicsExpress

Update from Steve Swart, MP: Hot debates in Parliament today in considering all the budget votes and finalises the Appropriation Bill. We are approving state expenditure of R1.05 trillion today. I explained that it would take 32 000 years to spend R1trillion at R1.00 per second. This to get an understanding of the figures involved. I have spoken four times already so far today on various topics, including the Budget, the appointment of SABC COO against the finding of the Public Protector (undermining the status of the Public Protector), the Special Investigating Units investigation of the Nkandla expenditure, and the poor state of the economy ( largely due to strikes in the mining and manuacturing sectors). While we have many challenges facing the nation, our budgetary process has been judged one of the most open and transparent world-wide. The challenge is to address the widespread corruption and irregular expenditure estimated to amount to R30 billion in state procurement. On a lighter note and given the financial constraints facing National Treasury, and the EFFs opposition to all budget votes, I suggested to the Minister of Finance that all National Treaury officials learn the words of the song, Moneys too tight to mention to stop wasteful and corrupt expenditure. This might even result in the EFF support for the Budgetary process given that Simply RED sang the song. This was appreciated by all. God bless and thank you for your prayers and support!
