Update from Thursday afternoon after Ashleigh-Anne s paracentesis.....the paracentesis did not give her relief in regards to the tightness and difficulty breathing. They were only able to get 1 liter this time. They are probably going to do a CT guided paracentesis because it allows a better view of the organs and they can drain some specific pockets of fluid that are pushing on her diaphragm. This will be done later today or tomorrow morning probably. They upped her pain meds and will reevaluate in about two hours to see if they need to hook her back to the pain pump. They have given her the diuretic and all IV fluids are stopped. They reassured us thus fluid is not a result of anything to do with failure or rejection of the liver. All liver tests look great! They said the inflammation/peritonitis is keeping the peritoneum from absorbing the fluids and working like it is supposed to. The antibiotics will kill the bacteria and then it will take time for the inflammation to actually go down. Meanwhile they will treat her symptomatically by draining the fluids as needed. Again, I apologize for the frequent posts but this serves as a record of events for her future blog posts and allows us to quickly communicate with the family.
