Update from WMNC News; Mudslides close roads in Caldwell County: At least two more roads were closed Sunday night in Caldwell County due to mudslides. Kirby Mountain Road near the intersection of Water Falls Road was closed due to a mudslide that completely blocked the road. Caldwell County Emergency Management says traffic is being re-routed onto Water Falls Road. In addition, Highway 90 North is closed just above Johns River Campground due to a mudslide that covers three-quarters of the road. Any traffic in the areas is advised to exercise extreme caution traveling in the area. Highway 268 is still closed at the intersection with Laytown Road, Old Johns River Road and Wilsons Creek Road all remain closed due to flooding and erosion. Kayakers and hikers are being asked by officials to avoid these areas due to the dangerous conditions and high water. Highway 268 drivers will be detoured onto Laytown Road which comes back out on Highway 268 above the affected area.
