Update on Baby Struthers: Today is Struts two-month birthday, and his birthday present was a new place to hang! At 4 lbs.10 oz -- maybe more since I last asked about weight -- and with so many treacherous hurdles behind him, he moved via ambulance today from University of Colorado Hospital in Denver to Penrose-St. Frances Health Services Hospital in Colorado Springs. It almost sounds a little scary from this far away, but his doctor and his team of miraculous NICU nurses all agreed that this was the time to move him. He still has to get into this swallowing gig, and needs to learn to multi-task a little bit -- like eating and breathing at the same time -- but itll happen. Struts new hangout is actually the hospital where his mommy works -- well, when shes not out on maternity leave, that is --- so a whole mass of people were anxiously awaiting his arrival. Im kind of thinking hes still going to get some special treatment here. Its so sad to see Cami, Eli, and Strut leave the people who have literally been in the trenches with this little family, but there will be NICU reunions and other occasions to visit their new-found friends. And while Ronald McDonald House has been a blessing, Im sure my daughter will sleep much more soundly tonight in her own bed. Its hard to believe she left there in October for a quick visit to the doctor and is just now back at her own house. Im thinking she should get breakfast in bed tomorrow morning, Eli Bremer. Welcome home, Cami Grebel Bremer . . . and welcome back to almost normal. A new kind of normalcy, of course, but the closest youve been for quite a while. Love you and your little family.
