Update on Brooks: We wanted to post something positive, because the last post seemed so negative. Brooks started steroids Tuesday evening, and his nausea has improved!! He still has the taste aversion and decreased appetite, and fatigue but doesnt feel as sick as he was feeling. He is still very sleepy, but his weakness has improved, and he is able to do a little more exercise, but it is still very limited. The steroids have interfered with his sleep the past couple of nights, but not a bad tradeoff if other things start improving. Will just have to see how things go over the next few weeks. Now the oncologist wants to start a monthly injection to help his bones heal since he has some bone lesions. Should have started this a month ago, but somehow that got overlooked. We hope to get the injection the first of the week. Unfortunately, the side effect profile doesnt look great, but he will do what he has to do. As many of you know, he is on an oral targeted cancer treatment because his tumor was positive for a marker that isnt that common in men. We are still very grateful that he doesnt have to get IV chemo. He did get an awful rash on his chest, back, and face after less than a week of treatment. This is a very common side effect, but we have got that under control with topical steroids, and antibiotics. Thankfully, now he isnt itching much like he was before. The good news about the rash is, they say it is a sign that the treatment is working!! He will have repeat scans in about 5 or 6 weeks. We will see how well he has responded to treatment. We found a great website for cancer patients/survivors which is a forum to ask questions and share stories and information. We posted a question last night, and we got a tremendous response this morning. We were overcome by emotion at the support of other people who are going through similar treatments. We want all of you to know how much we appreciate your concern through positive comments, messages, cards, and prayers. We have been touched beyond belief at the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Our cup runneth over with love and warm wishes back to all of you. We hope for many more positive posts in the very near future!
