Update on Cassie! Dr. Troxell just called to say that Cassies injury is going to need time to heal. He said Cassie was born with a few abnormalities. (not surprising for a 3 lb dog) Her skull has a portion that is growing in and this may have been been the tipping point when the dog bit her, pressing it in too far causing her brain to swell. Cassie is also missing a piece of one of her spinal vertebra (just an aside). Dr. Troxell does not want us to rush and remove that eye. He is going to put Cassie on prednisone and gabepentin for the head injury and she will most likely stay on these for life. He is also prescribing oral and topical medication for her eye to help produce tears. Cassie will stay overnight again and the team will see to Cassie ability to swallow as she has had few choking episodes. If she indeed has too much difficulty swallowing, they will place a feeding tube so she can have the proper nutrition while she is healing.
