Update on Ginger one of the few mixed breeds that Woof has been able to help... she and her brother Enzo were about the same age as the puppies we just took in - and were doomed. We had room, (and soft hearts) and took them both. Early on Ginger showed a sensitivity and gentleness and stability that is rare, especially in a small pup. Nothing rattled her.. (well she still isnt fond of the car) But now she is a full certified Therapy dog at a major Childrens hospital in Oregon. Her Dad, one of the lead Physicians there, specifically wanted to train and integrate a Therapy dog into his program. Ginger is the puppy he received from us about a year ago. At a young age, less than a year, she was Therapy Certified. Now in his words: Wanted to send you some photos and update you a bit more on Ginger. She is a terrific member of the Emergency Department and is widely loved. The first picture is Ginger with ‘Melissa one the ED nurses who loves seeing Ginger. I sort of try to plan Gingers visits around her schedule if I can. I have one picture of her on a patient’s bed in the Pediatric ED yesterday. She was at least as useful to the parents as she was to 10 yo little boy. The father had Ginger in a big bear hug that Ginger just loved. One photo is of her in my office on her bed. Earlier this week I had her in my office as I was interviewing candidates for Medical School—which I think helped diffuse some of their stress. I bring her to all my meetings with the first year medical students I mentor since they all love having her around and definitely helps reduce their stress loads.
