Update on Jacob: After a decent amount of sleep, Ill try to explain whats going on with him and give you the information that I know. It might get a bit medical, but bare with me as I start from the beginning and forgive the biology lesson-ish talk... There were some severe complications in yesterdays surgery. They were able to remove the nonfunctioning port, but realized fairly quickly that Jacobs jugular and subclavian veins were extremely clotted to the point that running a catheter to his superior vena cava was impossible.(jugular veins run from the neck & head, and subclavian veins run from the arm/shoulder areas, and the superior vena cava returns blood to the heart from the head and upper limbs) A venogram (kinda like an xray that shows veins & arteries) showed blood flow was like a sleeve through that area. It suggested that some of the areas were already calcified (that means they were old and harden hinting that theyve been there awhile). Luckily it also showed that Jacobs body has compromised by turning several of his secondary veins into compensating veins so we know the blood is getting where it needs to be. (His body is trying to fix itself! Gods design is a miracle.) Hes scheduled for a head-to-toe venogram on Tuesday so well see whats what and how long its been that way before making any more decisions. As of now, Jacobs home snoring peacefully in his bed. When he wakes up, hell be tired and sore, but never fear cause his momma will pamper him endlessly. Now let me tell you WHY this is actually a blessing in disguise. #1. Jacob would have had to eventually had to have his port removed anyway, so by doing it now and finding what we did, it gives us a chance to fix the problem before it killed him without us even knowing it was there. In cases like this, sometimes timing is everything. #2. Of all the days for Jacobs regular doctor to be sick, yesterday Dr. Daves had a cold and had to call in a replacement. That replacement doctor just happened to be the thrombosis specialist. (A blood clot doctor). The exact kind of specialist Jacob needed on the exact day he need it?? Yeah, that was an obvious blessing. #3. While trying to get an image of the blockage, the first image actually showed the compensating veins so we were able to see that Jacobs heart IS getting what it needs. Insert relief sigh here. Now let me say that while all this is still very scary, Jacob isnt going anywhere anytime soon. We will get my little man straightened out eventually and yalls prayers are a huge part of that, so keep on praying....
