Update on Jagger: We got the blood work back on Jagger and it doesnt look good. He tested positive for FIV ( FELINE IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS) and he is also diabetic. We had to make the hard decision to euthanize. We did not want to see him suffer and suffering is actually what he was doing living outside on his own. As I had mentioned in an early post Jagger must have been a family indoor cat at one time. He had been neutered and declawed. For him to wind up at the spillway was nothing more than tragic. There is a huge difference in domesticated house cats and feral cats. Feral cats are used to the outside elements, their instincts are to simply survive and most do a good job at that with out much intervention from us. Jagger did not possess the survival skills needed and his age and health only made it harder for him. Even though we did not get the ending we wanted for Jagger I feel that we did the right thing for him. Its very sad to lose an animal that you try to rescue, but we cant let that sadness stop us from trying. We at SCAT have many success stories and thats what keeps us going.
