Update on Joshua... GREAT NEWS! First Joshua gained another ounce. Hes 3 pounds 1 ounce. He is still doing well being swaddled so we get to continue that which also means we can still hold him instead of just kangaroo care. This means he is also keeping his own body temp at a regular temp an not lossing heat or over heating. Last few nights hes only had couple bradys so today at noon they decided to try him on room air. They take him off his cpap an just let him breath room air for one air. All on his own. Great news is they tried this and he done GREAT!! NO bradys, no heart drop, he just breathed all on his own with no complications! They will do this for few days, 1 hour off 2 times a day, to let him get use to it, then start letting him off for 2 hours 2 times a day an so forth. If he continues to do well they may just take him off everything all together to see if he can just take off breathing all on his own or switch him to canulla (no oxygen just a little air to help him along so he doesnt struggle or get to exhausted doing all the work on his own)which is a low flow machine, that will only be given the times hes not breathing room air. But either way once he is doing either of these 2 options he moves out of the NICU and into the Progressive Unit!! Thats a step closer to him coming home! Once there all he has to do is learn to take ALL his feedings from a bottle an not have to be feed none of it through tube. From what Ive heard this can be a challenge. They say babies may take half their feedings an just get exhausted from the sucking an swallowing together an just cant take In the rest. So thats something they have to work on an accomplish over time. So praying he picks up on that very fast an learns it quickly. Once he is able to take all his feedings hes pretty much got rest covered to be able to come home. :) Has to keep temp up, breath all on his own an of course take all the feedings by bottle. Just praying no no other complications arise an he continues to progress so he can come home!!
