Update on Kurt: August 4--Since he was a little guy (around 2 or so), the number 4 was Kurts favorite number. He would tell anyone who asked him that he was 4 years old when he was really 2 or 3. When the Hoosier Lottery show was on years ago, hed always pick number 4 as his number. So, I guess it seems fitting indeed that this shiny new-to him liver arrive on the 4th. We also talked on the way down to the hospital that he would now join his granny, gramps, and me by celebrating an August birthday, only of a special kind. We decided it would be a good time to light a special candle and say a special prayer for the unknown yet beloved donor. Happily, Kurt was the one who took the call this morning. I was taking a shower, so I handed off the bat phone as weve grown to call my cell phone to him. I was glad he got to hear the words, Kurt, would you like to come get a liver? from Lisa, our nurse coordinator. As we would expect, he came into the OR prep area calmly. The giveaway that he was a bit excited was his rosier than usual cheeks. When asked if he was more excited or nervous, his response was excited. He was ready to proceed. The surgery went smoothly in record time. His bile duct was in good shape, so that was a plus. His size, age, and over-all health worked to his advantage. Hes snoozing away now, still intubated, but alert when he needs to be. Hes had some pretty special people come by to check on him. Lolly and Ann were here, Sweetie and Jane Rae have been here, and Sara, Shaina, and Katelyn all peeked in on him--those 3 little angels took such good care of him while he was here earlier ♡. The next few days will bring with them new challenges to his body, but he is wholly in Gods loving hands and the Great Physician is with him at all times. We rest in knowing that with all our hearts. As I write this tonight, Im listening to Pandora and my dads favorite song, How Great You Art is playing. It was a song that played in my head on the trip to the hospital. I know youre here with your buddy tonight, Gramps. ..and hes going to be okay. Thanks to all of you who held us together and kept us strong with your beautiful prayers. I know youll continue them in the days ahead, and for that we are eternally grateful. Blessings to you all and good night. ♡
