Update on Kurt: July 11--The day started off with a visit from the liver team. Dr. Agrawal and group are pleased with his progress and he ask Kurt if he would eat a lot of food if the feeding tube was removed. He said absolutely. He then ask him if he would eat an English muffin if he offered it to him. Kurt replied he sure would, and he wasnt even that fond of English muffins. That brought a chuckle from the residents. He had another bronchoscopy to try and figure out where this phantom random fever comes and goes from. No fever today until this evening. He was told the procedure itself can do that. Yet again hes the anomoly--liver patients temps usually run low. His runs normally high. The test went okay according to Dr.Wolf, the pulmonary doc. They are testing samples, so were back to isolation mode until they get the results. After the test, he was getting really hungry and his oxygen sats were down more than they should have been. Deep breathing didnt really seem to help. He was feeling kind of rough, so I found Dr. Wolf. She came to the rescue--someone had dropped the ball and didnt get his oxygen hooked back up. She also expedited the lets get this kid fed suggestion to the nurse. From an earlier pic you see that hes made up for lost time with his food service menus this afternoon/evening. When I left his room a few minutes ago, he was still happily grazing. That, and a good 2 hour nap made the day that much better. He has some edema in his feet and arms tonight; he also has a really good nurse to take care of him. That means everything come nighttime. I think Im the only camp site tonight. Thats not necessarily a good thing in this neck of the woods. When families disappear from this area more often than not things didnt work out. Kurt is the current miracle around here. This bunch of amazing folks like to hang on to these miracles--me, too.
