Update on Laura Vanek-Schoolcraft - Today was indeed a roller coaster. They brought her out of the coma this morning and examined her to see where she was. The outlook was again grim. They were able to see some response to stimuli, but all responses were from a low brain level (e.g. moving when being pinched). What we have yet to see is higher level brain functioning. She remains in need of a miracle. Time can start to have an affect here as well. The breathing tube and feed tube cannot be in there for a long period of time. They still have to sedate her to control the pressure on the brain. She also has been running a temperature since yesterday and it wasnt being reduced by tylenol, so they brought in a machine that cools a special pad to reduce the temperature. We ended on a high note though, around 7p or so, her temperature had gone down, and the pressure readings were the lowest I have seen in days, even on reduced meds. When they cleaned one of her lines with saline solution, her arm and shoulder moved. This is again lower level functioning, but the doctor liked the readings and said very good. This was a wheeee moment on our roller coaster ride. Well take it. Saints of God, lets pray in that miracle. Pray for proper body temperature, no pressure on brain, reduction in swelling, and very importantly: cognitive functioning. Laura, how about we show them just what our God can do?
