Update on Maude (the rooster) Whats it been... 4 days? maybe 5 since we found Maude hiding under a metal feeder, having survived a predator that took out one of our hens.. Today, Walt, finished building the new pen and house for our coming Keets, (baby Guinea Fowl) then decided move Maude in... at least temporarily. He places a feeder, and watering can in the pen.. then got some water down him with a syringe. he then placed Maude.... in the Keet house.. and hoped for the best. Walt then went to the feed store and got some chicken antibiotic/electrolyte mix. When I got home, we checked on him.. he was still in the Keet house, and hadnt moved much. I went inside with him.. and started feeding him the antibiotic water mixture with a tint measuring spoon.. Something weird happened.. he acted as though he had something caught in his throat... thinking he may have breathed in some of the liquid, I stopped giving it to him.. and we went and took care of the other animals. When we returned, he was no longer doing his gag scene, so I went back to feeding him the medicine.. but with the syringe.. I got twice as much down him.. as I have water in the last few evenings. After getting the medicine down... I had some cooked green beans that I would pinch and place in his mouth... it took a few tries.. but he soon gobbled down about 2 ounces of them. (one tiny piece at a time placed in his beak.) Afterwards I put him on the ground outside the Keet house, but within the run.. he went to the watering can.. and took 3 sips. and moved around a bit.. picking up.. but not eating...a couple of pieces of chicken food.. We watched him for a little while. said a little prayer... and will check on him in the morning... Hang in there little Maude.. we are cheering for you!!
