Update on Melissa. On Sunday, August 17th, Melissa was thrown off a horse on her property. She landed on her left hip and hit her head badly on the ground. She was taken by life flight to a trauma center. She did lose consciousness after the fall but remembers everything up to that point. She has obviously suffered brain trauma and was unable to talk with out stuttering really bad, could not move any of her body, although she is NOT paralyzed, and was having small seizures. She has had 2 CT Scans and an MRI, all of which showed no bleeding in the brain. The doctors are perplexed as to why she can not move or speak normal. Her hip is not broken but is extremely painful when moved. As of he 28th, she is able to talk by sliding her words and is able to move both her arms and fingers enough to put finger food in her mouth with a lot of work and play Go Fish with her children. She can also wiggle her toes now but her legs are not cooperating yet. She has not any more seizures this week either. She still cant hold her head up but everyday we see overall improvement. Melissas mind is working very well, understands everything going on, can communicate well but tires quickly, has a very good attitude and is determined to get better. She has been moved to a care facility where she has started physical, occupational and speech therapy, 5 days a week for 30 min. with each therapist. She has let the therapists know that if they have any extra time during the day, she is willing to do more. We have no idea how long this will take but we fully expect to see improvement everyday and eventually a full recovery. She isnt able to talk or text on her phone but she can talk by using Voxer. Voxer is an app for the smart phone which turns your phone into a walkie talkie with anyone else who has the app. For those of you who live close and would like to visit Melissa (she loves visitors) here is the address where she is staying. It is a wonderful facility.
