Update on Merry....heartbreaking to say but in my 40+ years of rescue Merry is by far the saddest case of abuse I have ever seen. We have rescued Pitbulls like her that have been set on fire, battery acid poured on them, tied to ropes and dragged behind dirt bikes, battered, beaten, broken and starved. Merry has also suffered these atrocities but I have never seen an animal with their spirit broken like this little girls is. She crawls instead of walking and will not make eye contact with humans. She hides in the far back corner of her crate and crunches up in a little ball trying to avoid human monsters. She prefers to never leave her cage. After several weeks at Ark Animal Hospital in Victorville, she has begun to put some weight on her emaciated scrawny body. Her teats although enlarged from puppies most likely never had any milk to feed them because she was badly starved herself. Merrys eyes are hollow and empty and express only fear. Yesterday we picked up Merry who went to stay with a kind foster for a couple of weeks until she has to go back to Ark for her final surgery. Her armpits are healed and the flesh is growing back and closing in the gaps on her legs. DDP is hoping that a long term foster will come forward that can fill this little girls life with nothing but patience, love and gentleness and let her know that all humans are not demonic. I think it will take many weeks even months of love to bring Merry out of her deep shell of fear. God only knows how she was battered and tormented to leave her so withdrawn. Even with this fear she will not bite or even growl if you pick her up. She has shown no aggression to other dogs or humans. PLEASE SHARE WITH FRIENDS TO FIND A FOSTER HOME AND HELP WITH DONATIONS. THE FIRST PIC WAS TAKEN YESTERDAY IN HER TEMP FOSTER HOME. MERRY IS A MIRACLE IN PROGRESS. PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE WITH HER CARE AND NEEDS BY DONATING ANY AMOUNT BY PAYPAL TO [email protected] OR GO TO OUR COMMUNITY FACEBOOK PAGE DESERT DOG PROJECT and use the donate button.
