Update on Mom…Hard to believe it is already Thursday as this week has been like a whirlwind! First and foremost, Praise the Lord for being the almighty, all knowing one who is THE Great Physician. And thank you all for your continued prayers and support with words of encouragement and outpouring of love that you have shown. Mother is gaining strength daily as we are able to get her blood pressure back up and get fluids in her. As you know chemo often leaves one not wanting to eat or drink and in addition to the chemo mom has been on antibiotics for about 2 months now and has a really bad yeast infection in her mouth…so she really hasn’t wanted to eat and has lost right at 40 pounds. We still have not been able to get an answer as to what is causing the shortness of breath and the heart rate to spike at the slightest bit of activity, even after the EKG, ECHO, CT w/contrast of upper body and other tests. We truly appreciate the determination from the team of doctors to find the root cause but like one of the doctors told us last night in the most humble way…you know, there are times when we as doctors just have to realize that we need to treat the symptom and accept that we may not be able to diagnose a true cause. The CT w/contrast scan that they did on Tuesday night is actually one of the series of tests that they do for her cancer and she was scheduled for all of those the end of next week. So instead of repeating that one again Dr. McAllister used this scan and met with us last night. Her cancer markers are half of what they were the last time which is GREAT and the cancer has not spread to any other organs which is WONDERFUL; however, the scan did show that what was defined as spot on the liver was now defined as being covered or too much to calculate. So, my question was, what now? We will meet with Dr. McAllister next week to discuss that. I was blessed yesterday to have the opportunity to stay with Mom at the hospital (and I say that in the most sincere way possible) because God really used that time to speak to me and THAT I needed. #1 There are things in our life that we just don’t understand but we must keep the faith and press on. #2 Every person that visited yesterday, Mom shared that her one request from God when she found out that she had cancer was that she would be a blessing to someone. She would have to stop several times when sharing this to get her breath but it never failed that she would say this, and what a blessing she has been. #3 You never know what tomorrow holds. Make the most of TODAY and never pass up the opportunity to tell someone that you love them. #4 Am I living out J.O.Y. – Jesus, Others, Yourself. #5 At the end of EVERY day…Have I lived out my purpose in life? Thanks again for your continued prayers and I will keep you posted on moms progress.
