Update on Patrick. He is a very sick young man. In addition to raging pneumonia, he has empyema, which is an infection between the lung lining and the rib cage. Patrick has a very high pain threshold, so this infection has probably been brewing for at least 2 weeks, thus giving him a complex case. He will under go surgery tomorrow morning to scrape the infection (Thick wall of pus) from around his lung. They will be moving his ribs around and perhaps takingout sections of rib to getto all areas. Tubes will be placed to drain his lungs and the chest cavity. He will return to ICU following surgery and will probably be in the hospital for a week or so. Hopefully that pain threshold will help him out as he will have a very painful recovery. The good news is he is still trying to charm his nurses.
