Update on Reese Burdette from Laura Dufford Jackson - TopicsExpress

Update on Reese Burdette from Laura Dufford Jackson 10-11-14: Reese continues to heal and slowly improve. She stays surrounded by family who loves her and can comfort her. She is awake for longer periods now and interacts with us all. She was even able to force a smile for us this week. A beautiful smile that we have missed so much. We hear her little voice every now and again and it too, though hoarse, is a beautiful sound. Most days the staff is able to sit her up in a chair and we know this has to help her lungs and make her feel more normal, though it does tire her out. She enjoys watching her movies that many of you have sent and being read to. She does a craft most days, a little painting, coloring, stickers or writing. She loves the videos her friends have made for her to say hi. I think she craves her friends these days, people her own age and not all of these old people that are caring for her...not that I feel old or think we are old...just saying what I can only imagine a 7 year old is thinking! (But I am going to be honest, she has given me and a few others I know, a few wrinkles in the last few months). After a few rough days with gastritis/stomach issues, she passed her swallow test this week which has allowed her to have small amounts of liquid...a huge step and one that makes her feel better, she has had that ole dry cotton mouth for so long. She has been telling us the last few days she is hungry and has specifically asked for mashed potatoes...we cant wait until she can have those mashed potatoes! Its so awful to have to tell her not yet, or the doctors are working in it...she just wants mashed potatoes! Reese was able to FaceTime with her sister, Brinkley, this week...this was the first Brinkley has seen her sister in 4 1/2 months...it was a special moment for Reese, Brinkley, and all of the family. Reese misses home now...and who can blame her...but to see her mouth that she wants to go home will tear your heart out. Reese still needs many prayers and a lot of support. This week, please pray for her lungs to heal and function as they should, for infection to stay away, for her kidneys to work and function properly. Pray for strength for Reese, for her to rebuild muscle strength and stamina. Pray for her to have patience as nothing in the medical field is quick or fast. Please, just continue to pray for this special little girl that is so loved. We thank you all, as always, for being there for our family and for showering Reese in prayer.
