Update on Roger, I dont think anyone has really said a whole - TopicsExpress

Update on Roger, I dont think anyone has really said a whole bunch about my injuries on here, I thought Id make a post of what happened and how Im doing. Like an idiot, I forgot to pump the brakes on my GSXR1000 during the May ASMA round, leaving the pits and going full tilt o the warm up lap. When I came to the first corner, the Horseshoe, I was going approximately 130mph. I pulled the brake lever and nothing was there, pumped it three times before leaving the track. I remember turning slightly and heading for the bus stop before leaving the pavement. I remember a helicopter taking off with me in it, landing, and hearing a drill and then hearing a hammer put a pin in my right leg for traction. I woke up 4 days later. The main injuries were right femur that was broken both horizontally clean through, as well as a verticle fracture. The left femur was broken into 6 places at the top in the hip area. 3 confirmed broken ribs although I think there were more on the other side, broken left shoulder, broken clavicle, and a major concussion, as well as nerve damage in the left leg and foot drop. I was in the hospital for 5 weeks, and in a hospital bed for the next two months with occasional visits to the porch in a wheelchair. The past two weeks have been really good, I feel like Im finally getting back to normal. Back to work doing what I can, getting around in the chair pretty good. I have been to town a few times and my attitude is 100% better since Ive gotten more mobile. A few days ago my left foot began to move up, so hopefully that means I will be able to shift normally when Im riding..... :) I plan on being at every event possible, doing what I can to help Michelle and crew run things and I am excited for the fall season that begins next weekend. I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, donations and help over the past couple months. I know I will not remember everyone, we do have a list somewhere. Special recognition has to go to my family who has given me 24/7 care both at the hospital and at home. My wife Michelle, who in addition to being beautiful is also very strong and capable, My mom Annalee who put her whole life on hold to be by my side. My sister Annette who lives halfway around the world was at the hospital taking care of me, My other mom Aurora, and sister in law Katie have also played a big part in keeping me safe and recovering. Tony Tavitas for making the trip from Albq to help however he could. Then there are the people who dropped everything and made it possible for the show to go on and for me to be able to transfer home. Marios Burgos Burgos spent 5 days watching the property to make sure it was safe while Michelle was at the hospital. Josh Kauffman and Kevin Edgington dropped what they were doing at Speedcell and fixed a bunch of problems that occurred with the PA system and front gate, as well as moving all the furniture and shelves in the house so I could come home. Sammy Torres built a rig that allowed a gimp to get in and out of bed using only one arm. Without this piece life would have been extremely hard. Sergio Hernandez for picking up a hospital bed in El Paso and taking it to my house when I needed it. Ken Murray and his wife Barbara who spent a weekend getting my bathroom and ramp ready for me. I cant say thanks enough to them. Rebeka Bysdek and Phil Allison for organizing a car wash in Tucson, as well as everyone who helped and donated prizes. Ron Comeau and the Cairns family who helped at the drag races when I was in the hospital. All the people that visited me in the hospital, as well as at my house when I got home really lifted my spirits, as well as all the people that donated things that allowed Michelle to turn our living room into a hospital room. When you get hurt really bad, you absolutely find out who your friends are, and I am overwhelmed with the amount of support I have gotten. Thank you all so much. Now. Lets race!
