Update on Shealyn Thomson... I have been trying to write this post for three hours now! Shea and I got home from Dartmouth at 5:00pm. Was a hell of a lot to consume! The news of the heart is not as good as we thought. Through all these months there really has not been to much talk of the heart as between both CMMC and Spaulding....they were concentrating on other ailments and trying to get her body stronger to sustain this heart surgery! We met with Dr. Joseph DeSimone whom will be Sheas Surgeon! We really liked him. I would say today was more of an evaluation on his behalf to decide if he wanted to take on the surgery! I believe he wanted to see and hear from Shea that she wanted this surgery. That she wanted to live and to hear her inner strength and willpower!!! Which with the severity of this upcoming open heart surgery, all doctors have the right to choose! Unless on emergency factors of course... We did not have the Pre-op done today as was a disappointment where as I really wanted Sheas progressing cough checked so it would not postpone a surgery date! But Dr. DeSimone said he retrieved the Echocardiogram from Spaulding, but still has to retrieve the records from CMMC and talk with her cardiothorasic surgeon that operated on her lungs!!! He still has to get all information and meet with his team. He said he will call next week to schedule a Pre- op and set a surgery date! The surgery will be on Sheas Tricuspid Valve that is right below the right Ventricle! The Echocardiogram showed that most of the tissue is gone and therefore still leaking. They have to make a decision on whether to replace with a Tissue Biological Valve or a Mechanical Valve. A Mechanicle Valve ends to cause clots therefore she would have to be on a high dosage of Coumadin for the rest of her life and unable to have children.....a Biological Valve Tends to break down so she would have to have this surgery done again or several times to replace it....and either way she will probably have a pace maker!!! A heart wrenching appointment I would say and that is not a pun!! We felt secure with Dr.DeSimone as he was very thorough and precise. He also had a very friendly demeanor! Every surgery thus far has been touch and go and very hard to withstand and go through. This last one is a whopper!!! Not only the severity of it, but the waiting game just overloads our minds, is overbearing on our feelings and literally weighs heavy on our hearts!!!!! We have jumped many hurdles to get to this point. This last hurdle is extremely high on anxiety and the stride is so incredibly long!! Heres hoping Dartmouth Hitchcock calls sooner than later and we can proceed without ever looking back!!! Prayers Sheas way! Prayers for her heart to stay strong! I heart
