Update on current sentencing 18 August 2014. Former NSW Gynaecologist Graeme Reeves continues on parole after precedent dictates that residual discretion applies. Reeves original offences and sentences include: To obtain benefit by deception - 12 months. Multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault - 1 year 6 months. Grievous Bodily Harm (he removed a patients clitoris and labia and allegedly taunted her moments before the anaesthetic took effect) - 1 year 6 months with a non-parole period of 1 year. The result of the Crown appeal for manifestly inadequate sentences, was affected by the offenders physical and mental health which had deteriorated whilst in custody. The offender also stated during previous court proceedings that further incarceration would impact on his ability to complete his Masters degree in Medicine and Human Genetics. Contrary to his statement, the offender Graeme Reeves went on to successfully complete his Masters degree in Medicine and Human Genetics whilst incarcerated. During proceedings, there was also the submission that: The deregistration of the respondent is such that the purpose of specific deterrence has been served, as has protection of the community. Result of appeal: For the first offence, obtain benefit by deception, the sentence was adjusted to 1 year 3 months, an increase of 3 months. The second offence for multiple aggravated indecent assaults was adjusted to 1 year two months, an actual decrease in sentence of 4 months. The third sentence for grievous bodily harm remained the same.
