Update on our mom, Charlotte Martin: Just a quick note to family and friends... Our sweet 77 year old Mom was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma lung cancer in both lungs about 6 weeks ago. Further testing showed that it had already metastasized to her brain with 60 + lesions being found in her brain and on her PET scan, it looked as if someone had slung a wet paint brush at both lungs. She began an intensive 10-round radiation therapy for her brain. Last week, she received her port and had her first chemo treatment on Thursday. At that time, her medical staff also informed us that it has spread to her adrenal glands and her spine. Over the weekend, mom began experiencing very sharp, intense pain in her lower abdomen and her legs could no longer support her to stand or walk. I called her doctor and they asked us to bring her in this past Monday. As I tried to get her out of bed to get dressed, the pain was so overwhelming we decided to call an ambulance. She was taken to Huguley Hospital in Burleson. More tests showed a perforated colon. Emergency surgery was done where about 2/3 of her colon was removed. Cancer was not detected in her colon, but diverticulitis disease was. She was placed in the CVIC unit on a ventilator where she remains now. She is heavily sedated and still in guarded condition, but she does have brief moments of being awake and talking. The vent was removed 24 hours after surgery and she is now breathing on her own. She might possibly be moved to a regular room today or tomorrow if she continues to improve a bit. Thank you so much for the many cards, letters, calls, texts we have received. And thank you for your prayers and visits. They mean so much! If you would like to send a card or note, they can be addressed to: Charlotte Martin c/o Sue Hull 324 Springwillow Rd. Burleson, TX. 76028 As soon as mom is in a regular room, I will make sure these are all on the wall in her room. We will keep everyone posted. Please continue to send prayers and good thoughts as our family struggles to make some very difficult decisions over the next few days.
